JACKSON, MICHIGAN - DECEMBER 5, 2016-- Man on the Fence, by local Jackson author John R. Day, Jr., has been selected as a runner-up in the 2016 Shelf Unbound Best Indie Book Competition and has received an honorable mention from The Great Midwest Book Festival.

They are the first two honors Day has been awarded for his debut novel.

“It’s very exciting to receive recognition for my work, Man on the Fence,” said Day. “It’s one thing to have your friends and family tell you it’s great. It’s another to hear it from organizations that receive thousands of entries for these contests each year. I’m very proud.”

Shelf Media hosts the annual Shelf Unbound Best Indie Book Competition for best self-published or independently published books each year. The Great Midwest Book Festival has been hosting its competition since 1999 and holds many contests like it around the globe.

“I’m looking forward to entering Man on the Fence into more contests. I’m still trying for that gold medal,” Day said.
